Silicon Avalanche Photodiode (APD) Chips

Silicon Avalanche Photodiode (APD) Chips are semiconductor devices that operate in reverse bias mode to achieve high-speed and high-sensitivity detection of light signals. They are widely used in optical communication systems, such as optical fiber communication, due to their high gain and low noise properties. In APD chips, a high electric field is applied to the depletion region of a p-n junction, resulting in an avalanche multiplication of the photo-generated carriers. This allows for detection of weak optical signals that would otherwise be difficult to detect using conventional photodiodes. APD chips are often used in combination with transimpedance amplifier (TIA) chips to provide amplification and signal conditioning.
