KBr, Potassium Bromide
Potassium bromide (KBr) is a salt with the chemical formula KBr. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and is commonly used in various optical and electronic applications. In optics, KBr is used as a window material for infrared spectroscopy because it has a wide transmission range from the ultraviolet to the far infrared region. KBr is also used as a substrate material for growth of epitaxial layers and as a filler in X-ray diffraction due to its high density and high atomic number. Additionally, KBr is used as a scintillation crystal in gamma-ray spectroscopy due to its high stopping power for gamma rays.
