Barium nitrate, also known as Ba(NO3)2, is a chemical compound that has applications in several fields, including optics. In particular, barium nitrate has been used as a Raman shifter crystal in laser systems. When placed in a laser cavity, barium nitrate can shift the frequency of the laser light and allow for the generation of light in the near-infrared (NIR) region of the spectrum. This makes barium nitrate useful for a variety of NIR laser applications, including spectroscopy, lidar, and remote sensing.
