LGT Langatate Wafers

Langatate (LGT) is a high-performance piezoelectric crystal that is a member of the same crystal class as quartz. It has a chemical formula of La3Ga5.5Ta0.5O14 and is characterized by its lack of phase transitions up to its melting point of approximately 1450°C, making it ideal for high-temperature applications in piezoelectric sensors. Compared to quartz, LGT has a much higher piezoelectric factor d11 of about 2.8 times, resulting in more sensitive piezoelectric sensors. Additionally, the temperature stability of d11 and the isolation resistance of LGT are superior to those of Langasite (LGS). Furthermore, the piezoelectric coupling factor of LGT is 2.3 to 3 times that of quartz, making it possible to create resonators with high frequency pullability and temperature stability similar to that of quartz resonators. Additionally, the Q-factor of LGT overtone resonators is higher than that of quartz. Langatate crystals are grown through the Czochralski method, producing boules of up to 4 inches (100 mm) in diameter. It has excellent thermal, piezoelectric, and dielectric properties and is resistant to many chemicals. LGT finds widespread application in high-temperature surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors, high-temperature bulk wave (BAW) sensors, high-temperature and high-sensitivity piezo-static sensor elements, crystal units for BAW resonators, SAW devices for frequency control and selection, and wideband piezoelectric filters, both discrete and monolithic.
