Other materials used in PV cell production include: Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs) - these are used as the top electrode in solar cells and allow light to pass through while conducting electricity. Common TCOs include indium tin oxide (ITO) and fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO). Anti-Reflective Coatings (ARCs) - these coatings are used to reduce the amount of light reflected off the surface of the solar cell and increase the amount of light absorbed by the cell. Common ARCs include silicon nitride and titanium dioxide. Backsheet materials - these materials are used to protect the back of the solar cell from moisture and environmental damage. Common backsheets include Tedlar, Kynar, and TPT. Encapsulants - these materials are used to protect the front of the solar cell and keep it attached to the backsheet. Common encapsulants include EVA and PVB. Solder - this is used to connect the cells together in a solar module. Interconnect materials - these are used to connect the cells within a solar module to each other and to the external electrical contacts. Doping agents - these are used to create p-type and n-type regions in the solar cell to create a p-n junction and enable the conversion of light into electrical energy. Common doping agents include boron and phosphorus.
