Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans to build two additional fabs, P4 and P5, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, increasing its total facilities in the region to five. This follows the announcement of a third 2nm fab at the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park. The new fabs are currently in the planning stage, with environmental assessments expected to commence soon.
Construction of the first fab, P1, which began in August 2022, is set to enable mass production starting next year, while P2 and P3 are still under construction. The land for these facilities, previously occupied by a state-owned oil refinery, required significant soil reclamation efforts before construction could proceed.
Additionally, TSMC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Amkor Technology to provide advanced packaging and test services at a new facility in Peoria, Arizona. On October 9, ahead of its Q3 2024 financial report, TSMC disclosed a record revenue of $23.4 billion for the previous quarter, exceeding expectations, although this figure has not been adjusted for foreign exchange fluctuations.
