According to sources, Wonik Holding's scrubber for semiconductor production is currently undergoing a quality test by Samsung. In addition, it is also being evaluated by another South Korean 8-inch chip foundry. Wonik Holdings aims to focus on high-end scrubbers, particularly those based on plasma technology.

Scrubbers are used to purify toxic gases emitted during the production of chips and display panels. As governments implement strict environmental regulations and ESG initiatives, chip companies are increasingly seeking high-end scrubbers. The traditional combustion scrubbers often emit carbon, so companies are transitioning to plasma-based alternatives. In this process, electric arcs produce plasma that effectively processes the toxic gases. Wonik's entry into the scrubber market is expected to disrupt existing players such as GST, Unisem, CSK, and others, as Wonik already holds a significant position in the equipment market and Samsung is its main customer. Moreover, Wonik already supplies gas supply and monitoring systems that can be used alongside the scrubbers. However, a spokesperson from Wonik Holdings declined to comment on the matter,
