The Safety and Health Technology Center (SAHTECH) was founded in March, 2007. Original staffs are all from the Safety and Health (SH) Technology Department of Industrial Technology Research Institute. SAHTECH aims to be a major player in the field of SHE technology and service in Far East, and will serve as technical supports of public agencies, promote SHE technologies, and help customers in line with international standards. Current technology activities focus on assessment and control of potential SHE risks associated with semiconductor, TFT-LCD, solar cell, electronic and chemical industries. Led by Dr. Shuh Woei Yu, Dr. Jung-Pin Yu and Dr. Chien-Chung Huang, 16% of SAHTECH staffs hold Ph.D. degrees, and 60% have master degrees. SHE experience of staffs is over 20 years in average, and many of them are certified professional engineers, certified SHE personnel or certified ISO 45001 auditors in Taiwan.
SAHTECH has great capabilities and experiences in facility/process safety design of high-tech industry, risk assessment and lose control, business continuity management, chemical safety, integral management of ISO 9001/ ISO 14001/ ISO 45001, bio-safety, etc. Some activities of SAHTECH are listed as follows. Performance-based safety design, aimed at reducing smoke damage, fire lose and chemical accidents, are helping many newly constructing public complexes and clean rooms of semiconductor, TFT-LCD and solar cell factories. Numerous 12-inch semiconductor fabs and 10G TFT LCD factories have adopted SAHTECH in performing the mandatory process safety analysis requirement of Article 26 of the Labor Inspection Law.
SAHTECH also plays a major role in amendment and promotion of SHE policies and regulations such as the ILO-OSH, Voluntary Protection Programs, the globally harmonized system of classification and labeling of chemicals (GHS), and UN Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management (SAICM). In addition, SAHTECH provides technical services to various industries, available services including occupational health and safety management, hazard communication, chemical safety report, fire protection, exposure assessment, mechanical and electrical safety.
Many contractors of high-tech industry are also assisted by SAHTECH to establish their OHSAS 18001 management system. SAHTECH also works closely with industrial associations to contribute our SHE expertise to the society, such as served as SHE committee chairman of Taiwan SEMI, accreditation committee chairman of Taiwan Photo-catalyst Industry Association, and board member of Taiwan Responsible Care Association, Taiwan Occupational Health Association, Chinese Industrial Safety and Health Association, Chinese Aerosol Research Association, etc.
